God said He sees the Sparrow fall—
And cares for us as well—
But why would He let the Sparrow fall
If He cared that the Sparrow fell?

If God really saw the Sparrow fall
Before he hit the ground,
Why did He do nothing at all
To keep him safe and sound?

Perhaps God only guides his path
Because, prone and alone,
Another bird lay on the earth,
With no strength of his own.

Or the bird flew far off course,
And to bring him back again
God had to use a lot of force
To focus his attention.

Or, to raise the downed bird’s trust,
That louder he may sing,
God plans to raise him from the dust
Who has a broken wing.
