Welcome back, Inkwell readers! We hope you all had a wonderful holiday season (and maybe even got some rest!). We are excited to introduce our overarching theme for the spring semester, “Home,” and the theme of our first issue, “Roots.”

Home can mean different things for different people. Maybe for you it’s a physical place, like a house, an apartment, or a dorm room. Maybe it’s a person: a parent, a sibling, a neighbor, a friend. Maybe it recalls fond memories that warm you on these cold winter days. Or maybe the word home reminds you of things you'd rather forget and chills you from the inside out.

Our earthly homes are as diverse as we are, and our personal definitions of them are constantly changing. But one thing remains constant: where we came from. Our roots. We cannot control the circumstances we were born into. What we can control is how we respond to them. Join us Friday, February 9, as we explore how our roots affect how we define our homes, and be sure to check back Friday, February 2, for a sneak peek!

If you would like to submit a piece for “Roots,” please view our Submissions page for guidelines and send in your submission by Friday, January 26.
