As the semester begins, we embark on a new volume and a new series of themes for the year. This year marks the centennial anniversary of Bob Jones University. In celebration, our themes describe the school and this time in its history. Our first four themes connect to aspects of liberal education, beginning with beauty.
What is beauty? Is it in the eye of the beholder, as the well-known saying claims? Or is it objective? When you think of beauty, perhaps you think of an exquisite rose, a majestic sunset, or an elusive stag. Perhaps famous literary beauties come to mind, with their beasts and their eternal naps. Maybe you think of a place you visited this summer. Or perhaps you see the faded, fallen beauty of the world - the wilted rose; the wounded stag; the corruption of sin. We can't wait to see the perspective each of you takes.
