I am awake
wondering
why both love and anger burn,
and why Icarus fell into the sea for the Sun.

My soul reaches out into the forge,
an unconditional death grip
on a white-hot iron choice—
compassion or aggression.

My skin is melting
revealing my bones.
But somehow,
my hands are hollow.

Now the sound of your voice
drowns me in my dreams
and melts what is left of me.

I am no longer awake
wondering
why both love and anger burn.
and why Icarus fell into the sea for the Sun.
