Willpower
The staff at Inkwell Literary Magazine is proud to release our second issue of the semester, “Willpower.”
Willpower: “Control exerted to do something or restrain impulses; strength of character and firmness of purpose.”
We've started our quest, and it's going to take a lot of willpower to see it through to the end. From murder mysteries to our first serial fiction piece, sonnets to prayers, our writers have explored what it takes to make the final climb, to resist temptation, and to claw your way through adversity.
In the era of COVID-19, we’ve learned the willpower to keep going in times of uncertainty, and we’ve learned to appreciate those who have the willpower to go into risky situations for the betterment of others. But we’ve also seen the dangers of willpower unleashed to support wrong choices. Our writers explore these themes in their literature, reflecting life in their exploration of what it means to have willpower.
We hope you find a morale boost in this body of work and feel your own will strengthened and inspired. May you seek the strength of will to climb, to fight, to keep going despite obstacles in your path. And may you rest in the assurance that the ultimate strength of will comes from the grace of God alone.
“For the grace of God has appeared, bringing salvation for all people, training us to renounce ungodliness and worldly passions, and to live self-controlled, upright, and godly lives in the present age.” – Titus 2:11-12 ESV
