The Magic of Toys
Well-worn figures on a shelf,
With shiny eyes and plastic faces
And a quiet voice within
That faintly calls from distant places,
“Remember us, my friend!
And the world that we have made
Of magic and of wonder,
Where the two of us have played
In imaginary meadows,
On ridged peaks, or shifting sand.
Our world came to life with you
As we wandered paw in hand.”
But magic stills to silence;
The bright world slowly passes
As friends with living voices fade
To toys with small, bright eyes.
“Yet we’re still here, my friend,
And will stay close to you.
Show us your world now,
And we’ll rejoice as true friends do.”
